An embarrassed group of "disadvantaged" students was moved to the back of the room to symbolize victimhood while the more "privileged" students were positioned up front.
It is. 😩. We have our kids at a large, conservative private Christian school to avoid this crap, but we can’t protect them from growing up and entering a society full of deeply damaged peers. 💔
Wow. SHAMING students. What kind of insensitive, uncaring zealot would write this, and find yet another to inflict this on students? There is no worse way to teach.
I had an exercise like this in corporate "sensitivity training" a long time ago. One of the questions was to take a step back if you have an ancestor who was bought/sold. I am white, but have 1/8th Chinese heritage and my Chinese great-grandmother (who I knew... she died when I was 12) had been sold as a servant girel when she was 4 years old in 1913. I took a step back as instructed... and the lady running the program glared at me and snapped "why did you step back?" And I told my story and she said "well, that's not what I meant!" I didn't budge, and the incident fully exposed her for the class... so was quite useful in its way. Stuck with me though.
Let's add a few more (which can apply quite well to the people the "woke" view as "privileged"):
Step Forward:
A. Your parents are hard-working and never feel sorry for themselves.
B. Your parents are emotionally healthy.
C. Your parents have good values and have instilled them in you.
D. You have friends, neighbors, and extended family that also have A, B, and C.
E. You are a regular member of a high quality faith community.
Step Backward:
F. Your parents are frequent users of drugs and alcohol.
G. You are being raised by only your mother. Your father is either long gone or an infrequent visitor to your life.
H. You spend all of your free time wasting it on TV, video games, texting/talking pointless and cruel gossip, etc. I.e., nothing healthy or productive. And your parent(s) don't care.
I. Your teachers, culture, friends, family tell you repeatedly you're living in a society that hates you and doesn't want you to succeed.
I think parents need to teach their children how to respectfully decline to participate in activities that single out people by ethnic or economic factors, even at the risk of punitive action for their courage.
I just want to know who gave these white leftists the authority to speak for them? And who gave these white leftists permission to label and categorize everyone?
And just what in the world does "Opportunity/Lack of Opportunity" have to do with English and Language Arts???
According to "Teaching ELA" -
"language arts classes focus on basic reading, writing and linguistic / communication skills. Periods of silent sustained reading, cursive writing, syntax, thematic writing and vocabulary are all major focal points of elementary lessons."
Save the confession of their sins for church. Just teach the kids to read!
What in the... I grew up in a super rural, VERY poor area. I would probably be standing in the back of the room at the end of that stupid list, but thank God I married a hard worker and I'm a hard worker, and we moved to a city where there are jobs and we're doing okay now. No college opportunity or encouragement for us. The color of our skin had nothing to do with our being dirt poor before or our being middle class now. Our work ethic and willingness to change our location is what made that determination. This is woke nonsense!
This is such BS. Time to stop this Marxist crap and get back to basics
Thanks for the post really sad this is happening in my home state.

Keep up the good work. The tide is turning.

Take that piece of paper and teach/retrain every child to NOT MOVE ONE STEP when asked ANY personal question.
That is a great idea!!!!

What a load of crap. Typical lib victimization bs!

This is maddening!!! And honestly, if you can't see this for what it is, you're not looking on purpose.

I think parents need to find a way to rescue their children from the government indoctrination centers... er I mean schools.
