The reality of our world is that public schooling is NOT what we think it is. It has changed a lot since the 1970's and not for the better. The dumbing down of the basics is noticeable and the emphasis has changed from teaching to indoctrination. Once we send our children out of the house, they become wards of the state. Who really owns our children? If we truly owned our children, we would not allow them to be taught by strangers. Bottom line...Rockefeller said it best -- I don't want a nation of thinkers, I want a nation of workers. A dumbed down populace is ripe for abuse and here we are.

I’m in Florida too. Loads of woke leftists in the schools teaching and in administration.

I have screen shots of investment banks given access to kids here where they probe the kid for all kinds of woke information, family info, as well as private health information.

If you’d like to seen those screen shots let me know. My kids are trained to snap pics and record any wokeness coming their way.

agreed based on the teachers I met there. Particularly the closer you got to Broward County the more pedophilic and disturbing they got. They aren't suitable for companionship and by default should not be allowed around children.

Don't pin it on DeSantis. He's practically the only political leader in the country willing to call out this BS (or at least the only one of consequence). The GOP is taking over school boards in big Fl. jurisdictions. DeSantis even went through text books and jettisoned the ones where woke BS had infiltrated. He's a total champ in this fight - you can't run him down because he's unable to control everything.

You are also extremely low IQ and have no idea how US government functions work at any level. Maybe go back to Yemen or wherever the hell you are from based on your name. Don't explode in Florida at least.

No. DeSantis is doing great. He’s undoing the work of several other governors and legislatures that allowed corporations to partner with education. The corporations are then sneaking in the wokeness as they’re part of the plan to degrade our culture and people in preparation for zee fawth induzreal revoluzion!

Jesus. You really don’t know how things work, do you?

DeSantis is not a dictator. He doesn’t and can’t do everything. He’s our state executive. The legislature writes or unwrites the state laws. Local school boards determine school programs and Mayors w county commissioners determine local laws and ordinances.

Why things are so messed up is because people want daddy to do it, to git’er done instead of getting involved, educating themselves and doing the work themselves. It’s easier to bitch and moan online after the fact.

When I go the school board meetings, few other parents are there. When I go to county commissioners meetings, few other residents are there. When I go see my state representative, they’re surprised someone showed up.

The fault isn’t DeSantis. It’s not even the few leftist creeps and special interests getting their way. The fault is that regular people are uninformed and uninvolved, so they give up the ground, then if uncomfortable enough, they react after the fact. Mostly to bitch that those others should have done something about it!

The lazy, uninformed and uninvolved are getting just what they deserve.

It's hard to turn a giant ship around in such a short time. Most parents were not even aware of what was happening. He can't do it all in one go or by himself. Do you live in Florida? Are you getting involved locally?

If the kid is not 18, and not in risk of harm, no school staff should ever keep info from a parent. Parents are responsible for their children's lives.

I can't believe this is a point of contention.

Not only is it a point of contention, it's the law in most blue states that teachers MUST withhold this information from parents if the student requests it.

Both parties are two sides of the same coin. We have a duopoly political system; there is an illusion of choice but it really just all one entity. Ever notice how other countries have a multitude of political parties to choose from but Americans only get two? You realize in many states third parties cannot get on the ballot due to onerous rules and requirements. The system is rigged to keep the duopoly in power and only the duopoly. To think the Republicans are going to "save" our country is foolish. No political party in DC will save this country. It is up to you and me to change things and it will require blood, sweat, and tears. Liberty is not free. We will have to learn it all over again...

Yo fuck this I live in Naples fl and I take my daughter to gymnastics and I over hear this fucking dumb white lady talking about being a teacher and how she “wishes she could just teach” but she “realizes the parents concerns” meaning she wants to teach CRT and gender identity... no where is safe not even one of the wealthiest conservative cities in Florida they have teachers in the public schools desperate to indoctrinate... it’s sad o moved here to put my kid in a better public school and not have to worry... then desantis had me thinking ok she’ll be alright there... then, thank god I sat behind this bitch at my kids gymnastics because now I fuckin know there’s no way to guarantee your kid is not being subtly led astray day by day teacher to teacher year to year then boom you have a blue haired maniac that hates you running around trying to have sex with everything at 11... maybe even fat and proud... naw my kid can stay home and play video games before I’ll feed her to those sharks

On what planet it is appropriate for a high school English teacher (or any subject) to be prying into students' home lives? Goals and aspirations? Maybe, if you're the fucking guidance counselor. But their home life, whether they pitch, catch or switch hit (which is what announcing personal pronouns really boils down to), and whether they're in the closet at home? The whole exercise is completely out of line. That this idiot would keep information from parents just compounds the error. The thought that he/she/it (not knowing that particular score) has any right to this information (unless volunteered by a student) is arrogance in the extreme.

. . . Sorry, upon further consideration, I admit that I didn't fully consider that teachers of this ilk are only doing it because they are smarter, more ethical, care more, and as a teacher, are more familiar with the conditions of these kids' lives than their parents. These teachers have invested years of their lives in each and every one of those kids, putting food on their tables and a roof over their heads, have laid awake all night to care for them when they're sick, have studied their faces, their expressions, their gaze and gait, have attended all sorts and manners of recitals, concerts, sporting events, etc. featuring performances that are objectively terrible, but in which they find beauty that stirs their souls. Yeah, those teachers are surely better at knowing what's best for students. I didn't mean to be such as asshole.

Thanks for covering this story. When I first started reading it, I thought it was about one of the normally whack-a-doodle parts of Florida. Boy, was I surprised when you said it was Inverness in Citrus County. We live in Citrus County, a few miles from Inverness, and have always considered this to be a conservative county. I read the Citrus County Chronicle every day and have seen no mention of this story. It will be interesting to see if they decide to cover it, now that you have brought this matter out into the open. I admire your courage in taking on these subjects.

There’s a DeSantis hating troll here.

Don’t waste your time and breath on them.

DeSantis is not perfect, but he’s a damn blessing. Too many Floridians would still want Democrat Andrew Gillam, the single, skill-less, crack head in charge of the state and we’d all be mandatorily jabbed, masked, while our kids got CRT jammed down their throats. See Gainesville for the clown show we’d be in.

DeSantis is a fabulous executive.

Anyone who thinks otherwise isn’t worth my time listening too, especially when they appear to not know the issues, sound like they’re not even in this state, and just angrily throwing their poo.

Republicans in Florida were ignorant and naive, allowing partnership of corporations with our education in order to be modern and save money. They didn’t count on the fact corporations bring the wokeness in too and then data mine the children for present profit and later control over them.

Kids sit in front of Chrome books all day, in WiFI fields, and constant video surveillance all done under the BS that it’s for safety and their best interests.

The adults are indifferent or unaware idiots or leftist activist creeps. The “students of color” get away with everything in school while rules are only enforced on “Asians” and “White” kids. That’s part of the reason these kids are angry, confused and depressed.

When I was a kid in school we never had the teachers asking about pronouns and trans stuff. The teachers stuck to their wheelhouse: reading, writing. math and biology. And with biology they didn't go off the rails. The teachers just said this is the difference between a boy and a girl. Nothing less, nothing more. Now the teachers indoctrinate kids because the kids are very impressionable because of their age. Why not call CPS on the teachers? Can that legally be done or not? Or at least the AG.

But if the administration likes the idea of student loan forgiveness, why do we have a dept of education? Just let the states handle that issue.
