Oregon school staff directed to hide student's gender transition from parents

Boring Middle School in Oregon Trail School District is a prime example of schools stripping parents of their ability to make decisions about the mental health of their children in the name of trans inclusivity.

Heather Richardson, the school’s counselor, sent an email to staff directing them to refer to a female 7th-grade student as “Mike” and use “they/them” pronouns in school. However, Heather cautioned staff to refer to the student using her given name and “she/her” pronouns when talking to the student’s parents so the parents would not be tipped off about their child transitioning into an identity other than female.

A staff member who wishes to remain anonymous for fear of losing his job told Libs of TikTok that hiding students’ gender confusion with parents is not an unusual occurrence in the district.

Almost every parent asks their child the same question every day, “how was school today? What did you do/learn?” This is because parents want to know everything that’s going on with their children, from what they learned to who they are getting along with this week.  Parents want and need to know what is going on with their children academically, socially, physically, and emotionally.  Yet more and more schools are keeping parents in the dark when it comes to students’ mental health. 

Schools can’t even give Tylenol to a student without parental consent, but the Oregon Trail School District believes the right course of action is to strip parents of their rights and deceive them about their child’s mental health.  While most sane people view this as an issue, it is quickly becoming the norm across the country: Teachers are postured as knowing what’s in the best interest for children over parents, and they are going to extreme measures to prove it.

Libs of TikTok reached out to school administrators in the district. All have declined to comment.
