Cold Truth, a vegan ice cream shop, took to Instagram to say that they wouldn’t be serving any police wearing protective equipment. The post included a photo of a police car parked outside of the ice cream shop and a caption that read, “We can tolerate the parking . . . but we will not serve anyone wearing body armor.”
The ice cream shop is located in Detroit, a city with the second highest violent crime rate and the sixth highest murder rate in the country. Detroit News reported that Detroit is one of America’s “most violent big cities.”
After complaints about the post, Cold Truth went back and forth with a number of customers on Instagram saying, “Simple policy. If your job requires military-grade body armor, please come by for ice cream AFTER your shift.”
Despite customers risking it all on the violence-plagued streets of Detroit to get ice cream, Cold Truth doubled down on their anti-police policy to another customer saying, “Armor is not uniform, it’s equipment . . . It produces an atmosphere that is pretty intimidating.”
While Cold Truth finds life-saving body armor “intimidating,” the ice cream shop has posted photos on its Instagram page in the wake of Roe v. Wade being overturned showing someone holding a sign that says “MANDATORY VASECTOMIES NOW.” Is that not intimidating?
In response to Cold Truth’s anti-police policy, one former Detroit police officer Bryan Ede spent four hours handing out free ice cream to police officers right down the road from Cold Truth. Hours later, a Detroit police officer was murdered on the job.
Bryan Ede posted on Facebook following the shooting saying, “Just spent four hours today giving out free ice cream to Detroit’s finest, only to have a Detroit police officer killed in the line of duty moments ago. This is why we have to support our police. They do a job most can’t or won’t. Having worn that uniform, it is the most thankless job today.”

I can say with no doubt they would call 911 the moment they were confronted with any lawlessness. Just like there are "Do Not Resuscitate" orders there should be "Do Not Respond" orders a business or a person can sign. That frees up police resources for the rest of us who want it. Blue Live Matter.
I hope Cold Truth has to face the cold truth of a lot fewer customers!
